Chris Turley is a composer and instrumentalist living in Montreal, Canada. Taking inspiration and knowledge from almost two decades of musical experience in a variety of styles, he composes film scores, produces licensable tracks, and has his own projects and collaborations.

Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Jonathan is a multi-disciplinary performer and creator.

He has written 8 musicals, including The Hockey Sweater (Segal Centre) the award-winning Variations on a Nervous Breakdown and music for A History of Summer (with Drama Desk Award Winner Adam Mathias).

 

In addition, he has scored over 20 original scores for theatre, including 4 seasons at the Stratford Festival, A Christmas Carol (NAC), and the full-length CBC feature, “A Christmas Fury”.

He trained at BMI New York’s famed Lehman-Engel Workshop, and won their Harrington Award for Outstanding Musical Theatre Writing Achievements.

 

While in New York, Jonathan was Musical Associate to Charles Strouse (composer of Annie& Bye Bye Birdie) and Richard Maltby (Lyricist of Miss Saigon, Baby, Big), and was mentored by Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza).

 

Musical Director: over 30 productions, most recently the critically acclaimed Piaf/Dietrich(CAA Theatre/Segal Centre). Others includeThe Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (Segal Centre), The Light in the Piazza (Theatre Calgary, The Musical Stage Co.), Floyd Collins, Best Laid Plans (Patrick St. Prod. Vancouver), and both MD and Director for Sweeney Todd (Opera on the Avalon).

 

Jonathan is also an actor, singer, and pianist. Featured at Carnegie Hall at the age of 16, he has performed in over 70 productions for theatre, film, and TV. Most recently, he played Lionel Percy in Bakersfield Mist (Centaur, Vancouver Arts Club).

 

Other favourites include: Much Ado About Nothing, The Miser(Stratford/Broadway), The Producers (Mirvish), Flashpoint (CTV), Republic of Doyle (CBC), Heyday (CBC), Ted in 2 Pianos 4 Hands (6 productions, including 1st National U.S. tour), Valjean in Les Misérables (Atlantic Light), Molina in Kiss of the Spiderwoman (TIFT), and 3 seasons at the Stratford Festival. He teaches privately and resides in Montreal.
